Most of our Chinese window screens are from Beijing, Guangzhou, and Chengdu, China, although we also have a handful from Chinese homes in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Originally serving as decorative and functional window screens in 18th- and 19th-century homes, the pieces are now sold in antique markets in selected locales in China. One should be careful in purchasing screens since many simply-designed ones are now flooding "antique" markets, though they are newly constructed.

Our Chinese window screens are all authentic, antique pieces from the 19th century and earlier. As beautiful as they are rare, these antique screens make excellent wall hangings and can also be built into walls in new and remodeled homes, paired with other screens to make a dramatic headboard, or even used behind glass in a custom-made door or divider. In our travels, the window screens have become increasingly hard to come by since many of the older homes that contained them have been torn down to make way for newer structures.
