Born in Havana, Cuba, Luis Lamothe Duribe (1965-2020) was an extraordinary artist who created images of the land of his birth in whimsical, black-and-white linoleum prints.  Lamothe then printed -- on a small, handpress -- exceedingly small runs of his works, usually printing only 15 copies of the pieces he had spent a month or more carving into used floor linoleum.

Two decades ago we fell in love with Lamothe's artistry, and his dynamic personal style, and saw him as one of the leading Caribbean artists of the 21st century.  Lamothe won several international awards for his works. Tragically, he died far too young in 2020.
